Ronald McDonald Family Room
What is it?
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga and Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.
The facility is designed to be a respite area for those who are providing “around the clock” care and vigil for their loved ones and is staffed daily from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. by volunteers.
Ronald McDonald Family Room, located on the third floor of Children’s Hospital at Erlanger near the “F” Elevator, offers families a place to rest, wash clothes, take a shower or nap just steps away from their loved one’s bedside.
The Family Room is open 12 hours a day when there are two volunteers available. The services are available to anyone with an immediate family member in the Hospital. The Family Room typically serves over 21,000 visitors a year.
Who Is Eligible?
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is open to those who are caring for patients hospitalized in Erlanger, Children’s or Siskin Hospitals. Registration for the Family Room is done by the patient’s name. The patient’s status must be verified on the hospital census before services can be used. Patients who are in the emergency room or in labor and delivery typically cannot be verified until the patient is admitted to the hospital.
For the comfort and respite of our Family Room visitors, patients are not allowed in the Family Room. The Family Room is not equipped to handle a medical emergency. Anyone who uses the Family Room must be 18 or accompanied by an adult. Each patient’s family may use the Family Room up to 2 hours if the room is crowded. If the room is not crowded, the family’s time or occupancy numbers will not be limited.
The Family Room is equipped with a small kitchen with food available depending on donations, two private showers and dressing areas, a family conversation area with television, quiet or nap room and laundry facilities. All food and drink must be consumed in the Family Room. All services are provided free of charge. Donations are welcome!
