volunteers making phone calls to raise funds for share a night

Phonathon

During the annual Phonathon, calls are made over three nights to encourage past donors and new friends to give a gift to the Share-A-Night Campaign. This is also a time we use to thank our awesome donors for their gift(s) and providing a “home away from home” to allow families to be better together.

The Share-A-Night Fund makes it possible for the House to help keep families together and near the resources their sick child needs. It costs $75 to host one family for one night and over $2,100 a night for the entire 28-bedroom facility. This year will mark 30 years of providing a home for families to stay close and be better together!

For the past 40 years the Lawrence family has hosted the Karen Lawrence Run in memory of their daughter, Karen, who battled acute lymphocytic leukemia. It is in Karen’s memory that family, friends and volunteers have given their time, talent and resources to continue supporting those with a story just like hers.

“Before she lost her battle with leukemia, Karen asked us to continue helping sick kids,” shared Phyllis Lawrence, Karen’s mother.  “Our family has honored that request for 40 years by both raising funds and volunteering for causes near to her heart and ours.  We are excited to continue her legacy with the Run4Kids in Memory of Karen.”

Since the House opened, the Lawrence family has been involved with helping other families after experiencing the need to stay close to their own daughter in the hospital. Now, 30 years later, families just like the Lawrences are continuing to stay close by their sick child with all the comforts of home.
